What happened to Essentials courses?
Essentials courses have reached End-of-Life status and are being phased out. With the 2026 refresh, all courses are optimized for efficiency while maintaining full compliance with state mandates, making separate Essentials versions unnecessary.
How this affects assignments:
- Learners currently in progress can complete their assigned Essentials course
- Learners who haven't started will automatically open the new 2026 version
- All new assignments will use the 2026 refreshed version
- Future recertifications will automatically use the new versions
📦Essentials SCORM files should be replaced as soon as possible. While Essentials courses will continue to work for now, they will be phased out. Contact us to get the updated 2026 SCORM files.
Which states have dedicated Harassment Prevention courses? (Why doesn't my state have its own course?)
Only some states mandate specific content or minimum training lengths. We provide dedicated courses where state law requires it (e.g., CA, CO, CT, DE, IL, ME, NY, WA). For other states, assign the United States (US) versions, which follow federal guidance and widely adopted best practices.
Why this is often better:
- Compliance-fit: US versions meet general legal standards where no state-specific mandates exist.
- Time-efficient: Shorter than mandate-bound state courses, so Learners spend less time while still getting the essentials.
- Consistency: One template for multi-state teams, fewer assignment errors.
If you want a single course that covers every state’s mandates, use US All States - just keep in mind both Supervisor and Non-Supervisor versions are two hours long.
🏙️Note: Illinois has two versions—IL (Chicago) and IL (Non-Chicago)—because the City of Chicago has additional training requirements that exceed Illinois state mandates.
What if I have employees in different states?
When you assign training, you can choose which state's training each employee receives. Dedicated courses are available for CA, CO, CT, DE, IL, ME, NY, and WA. For employees in other US states, use the US version.
If you have employees in Illinois, remember to assign IL (Chicago) for employees located in the City of Chicago and IL (Non-Chicago) for employees elsewhere in Illinois.
We also offer the US All States version, which covers mandates for all US states. This is ideal for employees who work in multiple states or for organizations that want to simplify training assignments across different locations.
Visit our interactive map for detailed information on training requirements in each state.
What's the difference between US All States and US Harassment Prevention?
- US All States: Covers mandates for all states with specific training requirements (CA, CO, CT, DE, IL, ME, NY, WA). Designed for multi-state teams or employees who work across states. Both Supervisor and Non‑Supervisor versions are 120 minutes.
- US Harassment Prevention (US): For states without specific mandates. Shorter because there’s no state‑specific content or minimum length required. Common default for non‑mandate states.
Why are Florida and Texas regions in the Dashboard if they use the US version?
Florida and Texas have regional courses with extra content for HIPAA training, as those states have privacy laws that exceed HIPAA mandates. These regional variations do not apply to Harassment Prevention training, so Texas and Florida Learners are assigned the US version of Harassment Prevention.
If our headquarters is in one state but employees work in another, which course should I assign?
While EasyLlama cannot provide legal advice on complex compliance situations, the general rule is to assign the course for the region where the employee is physically located when they work.
Some employers prefer to assign the All States version to Supervisors who have direct reports in different states, or to employees who travel or interact frequently with employees in other states.
If your employees are in non-mandate regions and your headquarters are in a mandate region like California, you may assign the California course to them. However, if they are located in a state with specific mandated material, assigning their state's course or All States is best practice.
What if I have employees outside the United States?
EasyLlama offers region-specific courses for Australia, Canada, India, and the United Kingdom. We also offer a Worldwide course for other countries. The Worldwide version does not conform to any specific region's laws or mandates.
If you're unsure about compliance laws in a specific region, we suggest reaching out to a law firm or HR firm specializing in compliance.
How do I assign the course in a different language?
You don't need to assign a special course. Learners choose their preferred language at the beginning of the training.
How often does my staff need to take this training?
Most employers consider it best practice to renew annually for all employees to stay current with updates and maintain compliance.
Review our State Requirements page for detailed information about requirements in individual states. You'll find an interactive map and downloadable guide there.
Is there a refresher course for Learners who already took the full version?
While we offer useful microlearning courses called Llama Bites to enrich Learner understanding of concepts, Learners need to take the full version of the course to remain in compliance for both initial training and recertifications.
How do I determine who should take the Supervisor course? Do owners need to take it?
While we can't provide legal advice on your company's compliance, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing defines a supervisor as anyone with authority to hire, fire, assign, transfer, discipline, or reward other employees, or anyone with the authority to effectively recommend these actions if exercising that authority requires independent judgment.
This is a good rule of thumb for any state. Since an owner typically falls under this definition, it would be best practice for owners to take the Supervisor course.
Supervisor training is designed with the understanding that supervisors have more influence over the workplace and more responsibility when it comes to recognizing, preventing, and responding to harassment incidents.
Do you offer continuing education (CE) credits?
We cannot offer continuing education (CE) credit at this time.

No. Training can be paused and resumed anytime. Learners can close the training and reopen it from the training link—it will resume at the beginning of the same slide where they left off.
What about Chicago's training requirements?
The City of Chicago has training mandates that exceed Illinois state requirements. To address these additional mandates, EasyLlama offers Chicago-specific courses.
Harassment Prevention courses
- Harassment Prevention: IL (Chicago) for employees located in the City of Chicago
- Harassment Prevention: IL (Non-Chicago) for employees in Illinois outside of Chicago
Bystander Intervention courses
- Chicago Bystander Intervention covers Chicago-specific topics and mandates
- Bystander Intervention (general version) covers the mandate with broader content - can be used for employees in any state
Both Bystander Intervention versions meet the City of Chicago's requirement, but the Chicago-specific version includes content tailored to Chicago regulations and workplace scenarios.
If my non-Chicago employees take the Chicago training, are they still compliant?
Yes. The Chicago version includes all Illinois state requirements plus the additional Chicago mandates, so it exceeds the requirements for employees outside of Chicago. While the Non-Chicago version is more streamlined for employees outside the city, assigning the Chicago version to all Illinois employees will keep everyone compliant.

To assign a different industry version to individual Learners:
