Reporting: Customizable Dashboards
Learn how to customize your Insights dashboard view to focus on the training data that matters most.
Overview
Insights is the central location in the EasyLlama Admin dashboard where Admins view training data across their organization, including course completion, overdue training, participation, and recertifications.
Customizable Dashboards enhance Insights by giving Admins flexibility in how this data is displayed. Instead of relying on a single fixed dashboard, Admins can create or edit dashboard views to focus on the training insights that matter most to them.
This makes it easier to understand training status, identify gaps, and take action without exporting spreadsheets or navigating across multiple areas of the platform.
How to access Insights
Customizable Dashboards are built directly into Insights and can be found by doing the following:
-
Log in to your EasyLlama Admin dashboard
-
Use the left navigation menu and select Insights and Reports
-
The Insights menu option should automatically open, but if it does not, you will need to click on it.
This is where all customizable dashboard views live.
How Customizable Dashboards work
Customizable Dashboards allow Admins to control what training data appears in Insights and how it’s organized.
This can be done by modifying an existing dashboard, such as the Advanced Insights legacy dashboard or by creating a new dashboard customized to your different reporting needs.
Customizable Dashboards are built using widgets.
Each widget represents a specific view of your training data, such as completion status, overdue learners, or assignment progress. By combining widgets, filters, and layout controls, you can shape Insights around the questions you need answered.
With Customizable Dashboards, you can:
-
Create or edit dashboard views
-
Add and configure widgets
-
Filter and reorganize data
-
Take action directly from certain widgets
Below is a step-by-step walkthrough of the core actions available.
Step 1: Create or switch dashboard views
You can create multiple dashboards and switch between them using the dashboard dropdown.
Different dashboards can be used to:
-
Track state-specific or role-based training
-
Monitor overdue learners
-
Review executive-level completion
-
Focus on recertifications or high-risk areas
How it works
- Click the dashboard dropdown at the top of the page
-
Select an existing dashboard, or choose Create new dashboard
- Click Add Widget and make a selection in the template library
- Arrange and configure your widgets, then click Save
Step 2: Add widgets to your dashboard
Dashboards are made up of widgets. Each widget displays a specific type of training data.
How it works
-
Click Add widget at the top of the dashboard
-
Browse the widget library
-
Click Add beneath the widget you’d like to include
💡 You can add the same widget multiple times with different filters.
Step 3: Edit, filter, and organize widgets
Widgets can be customized to show exactly what you need.
Admins can:
-
Filter widgets by learner, course, assignment, department, role, region, or state
-
Rename widgets to reflect their purpose
-
Rearrange widgets using drag-and-drop
-
Hide widgets that aren’t relevant
Rearranging widgets

Renaming widgets
-
Click the ellipsis menu (⋮)
-
Select Edit
-
Click the widget title and update the text
-

Editing and filtering widgets
-

💡 You can add multiple filters to a single widget for more targeted insights. Some widgets support more filter options than others.
Step 4: Take action directly from Insights
Some widgets support built-in actions, allowing Admins to respond immediately to what the data shows.
Depending on the widget, you can:
-
Notify learners
-
Escalate issues to leaders
-
Assign or reassign training
-
Export data
This reduces the need to switch tools or export spreadsheets for follow-up.
Look for the ellipsis menu (⋮) or action buttons within a widget to see what actions are available.
Example: The Learner Past Due widget includes a Notify All Past Due action. You can also click the ellipsis menu (⋮) at the far right of an individual learner’s row to notify a specific learner or update their due date.
🎨 Personalization Tip: Create multiple dashboards for different use cases, such as overall completion tracking, past-due follow-ups, or recertification monitoring.
Rename each dashboard and its widgets to clearly reflect its purpose so Insights stays focused and easy to interpret.
Managing dashboards
Rename a dashboard:
- Open the dashboard dropdown
- Click the ellipsis menu (⋮)
- Select Rename dashboard
- Enter a new name and click Save
Set a default dashboard
- Open the dashboard you want to use by default
- Click Save as default dashboard
Your default dashboard will load automatically each time you open Insights.
Understanding Dashboard Widgets
The widget library includes a variety of data views to help you monitor training across your organization. Available widgets may evolve over time.
Common widget types
List widgets
Display detailed tables with learner names, course assignments, and status information. Some list widgets include action buttons like Notify All to send reminders directly from the dashboard.
Chart widgets
Visualize data with charts or graphs, making it easy to spot trends and compare metrics at a glance.
Count widgets
Display single numeric metrics with month-over-month comparisons, giving you a quick snapshot of key performance indicators.
Each widget type supports different customization options. You can filter data, adjust row counts for list views, and add multiple instances of the same widget with different filters to track various groups side by side.
Adjusting table views
For widgets with table displays:
- Click Edit on the widget
- Use the Number of rows dropdown to control how many items display
- Higher row counts reduce the need to paginate through results
Switching between dashboard views
Use the view toggle at the top of the page to switch between:
- Advanced Insights (new customizable dashboard)
- Basic Insights (original view with drill-down capabilities)
Both views remain available so Admins can choose the experience that best fits their reporting needs.
