Recertification Date and Due Date -what's the difference?

Learn the differences between Due Dates and Recertification Dates.

Quick Answer

  • Due Date is the deadline to complete an assigned course.
  • Recertification Date is the next time the learner needs to retake a course that was previously completed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Due Date?

The Due Date is the deadline by which a learner must complete a currently assigned course. Only courses that are not yet completed have a Due Date. It's set based on your Default Due Date in Settings > Training Settings and determines reminder frequency.

What is a Recertification Date?

The Recertification Date represents the next time a learner needs to retake a course.

It's based on the Training Frequency settings (e.g., every 12 months, 24 months) and appears for complete courses. If the currently assigned course has not been started or is incomplete, the Recertification Date will NOT appear in the Learner's tab, but the Learner's profile will show a "Pending Completion" status.

How is the Recertification Date calculated?

The recertification date updates to match the completion date plus the frequency period.

Can you give an example?

Alex is assigned a CA Supervisor course on July 21, 2026 with:

  • Frequency: 24 months
  • Default Due Date: 2 months
  • Due Date: September 19, 2026

If Alex completes on:

  • July 21, 2026 → Recertification is July 21, 2028
  • August 2, 2026 → Recertification is August 2, 2028
  • January 3, 2027 → Recertification is January 3, 2029

Why does the Recertification Date update after completion?

Learners recertify based on when they actually completed the training, not when it was assigned. This ensures accurate compliance timing.

Which date appears in the Learners list?

The Learners list shows the closest recertification date across all completed courses assigned to that learner.

What status appears in the Learner's Profile?

The Learner's profile can show the following Recertification Date status:

  • Never - Appears when "Never" is chosen in the Recertification Settings
  • Date of Recertification - Based on the date the course was previously completed, plus the training frequency set.
  • In Progress - Appears when the learner is currently completing the course that is due. Will update with recertification date once the course is completed.
  • Pending Completion - Appears when the learner has not started their currently assigned course. Will update with recertification date once the course is completed.
